This review of research done on pharmacological treatments for smoking cessation found that Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) and bupropion were both associated with higher rates of cessation. Varenicline and combination NRT were most effective. These findings support US guidelines that recommend counseling in combination with these treatments.
