The American Lung Association released a toolkit designed for state tobacco control staff (and their coalitions) to work with state Insurance Commissioners to improve tobacco cessation coverage in private insurance and specifically in exchange plans. Each state has an Insurance Commissioner who regulates insurance products, including health insurance. These commissioners can provider clarification on what should be covered by insurance companies in terms of tobacco cessation services. Thus, they can have a pivotal role in improving what kind of tobacco cessation services are covered by private insurance.
