Many of the resources included in this site address the statistics of high morbidity and mortality of cancer among individuals with mental illness. This literature review addresses the practical and ethical concerns behind these statistics. These concerns include low screening rates, behavioral risk factors that predispose individuals to a higher risk of cancer, drug interactions in treatment, medical comorbidities, and difficulties in treatment adherence. These issues must be addressed to ensure effective treatment for both mental and physical health.
