The adult smoking rate in the United States has fallen much faster under the Obama Administration than under the previous two administrations and would fall to zero by around 2035 if this accelerated rate of decline continues.

Panel A shows age-adjusted prevalence by year, from 1993 through 2015. Data are from the National Health Interview Survey.1 Panel B shows the estimated trajectories, which are based on the slopes from relevant past periods, from 2015 forward.
