This study involves interviews with social workers who discussed their experiences with patients who were living with serious mental illness and cancer. Analysis showed that stigma and compartmentalized care were a detriment to patients’ care. For example, many of the patients’ cancer-related concerns were discredited due to the stigma of their mental illness.
