This survey of the opinions of ob-gyns regarding the USPSTF 2009 Breast Cancer Screening Recommendation Statement demonstrates that health and political policy have been difficult to understand in terms of screening recommendations. Only 54% of ob-gyns realized that the recommendations do not represent the position of the U.S. Government, while 60% believed that funding components of the Affordable Care Act were a factor in the new recommendations. In fact, the USPSTF committee is not comprised of federal employees and the recommendations were based on health and cancer-related research, not on policy reform.
