The FDA (Federal Drug Administration) has come to a decision in lowering the amount of nicotine content of cigarettes to non-addictive level.  This plan is to address and protect youth and reduce all “tobacco-related disease and death” (including those with mental illness).

“The overwhelming amount of death and disease attributable to tobacco is caused by addiction to cigarettes – the only legal consumer product that, when used as intended, will kill half of all long-term users,” said FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, MD, said in a release.”

The FDA has also announced that it will take measures more carefully in finding a balance between regulation and encouraging development of experimental  products that may be less dangerous than cigarettes.
