From the abstract: There is growing concern that those with serious mental illness experience disparities in health education, health prevention services, cancer screening, access to diagnostic testing, cancer case recognition, and higher cancer case fatalities. Although there are many interrelated and complex factors associated with cancer-related risk among this vulnerable population, many of these factors can be addressed. This paper aims to increase awareness of cancer risk factors and implications of employing innovative health promotion and cancer-prevention strategies among people with serious mental illness.
