This article responds to a 2010 survey of ob-gyns regarding opinions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The article expresses concerns about an apparent misunderstanding of recommendations from the US Preventive Services Task Force. While the USPSTF has changed cancer screening recommendations based on a balance of prevention while avoiding potential complications of over-treatment, many ob-gyns have interpreted these changes to be the result of cost reduction measures under the Affordable Care Act. The authors encourage physicians to review the USPSTF recommendations in order to properly conduct prevention and screening efforts.
