Using Trauma-Informed Motivational Interviewing to Support Tobacco Cessation
Date: Monday, September 16, 12:30-1:30 p.m. ET

Individuals who experience trauma, including adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), are two times more likely to use tobacco as adults. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that adults with mental illness or substance use disorders consume almost 40% of all cigarettes smoked. Trauma-Informed Motivational Interviewing (MI) helps primary and integrated care providers support tobacco cessation through an enhanced trauma-informed empathetic and evidence-based approach to lead to potentially higher rates of engagement and outcomes.

Join the National Behavioral Health Network on Monday, September 16 at 12:30-1:30 p.m. ET for Trauma-Informed Motivational Interviewing to Support Tobacco Cessation, a webinar to guide attendees in the use of MI with a trauma-informed perspective when working with individuals with behavioral health conditions who are trying to quit tobacco. The webinar builds on our June 16 webinar, Connecting the Dots: Addiction, Trauma and Tobacco Use.

Subject matter experts Taslim van Hattum, LCSW, MPH, Director of Practice Improvement at the National Council for Behavioral Health; Pam Pietruszewski, MA, Integrated Health Consultant at the National Council for Behavioral Health; and Elizabeth Guroff, MA, LCMFT, Director of Trauma Informed Services at National Council for Behavioral Health will lead the discussion.
